Okung Kinships

The Okung Kinships is a large collection of small families and cultures in Duela. They are majority Rutefall, Tudofall, and Difmuz, but other species of person are known to join the kinships.

Although exact territorial sentiment varies by Kinship, they are generally quite territorial especially when “outsiders” are considered. Kinships don’t make map claims on territory, but rather have a general area-of-operation where they tend to roam around. These areas are often overlapping, but there’s realistically nothing a kinship can do if another kinship works in their “claimed” territory if they are not present.

There are some locations where Kinships have a more defined and exclusive territory, particularly in the Barthe and Edlyue regions. These regions are less swampy and have more solid ground than the regular mangrove swamp of Duela and the mud lands, so territorial lines are also easier to draw. Barthe is a collection of about 6 freshwater lakes and Edlyue is a generally wet grassland.

Swampland Kinships

Swampland kinships generally have an area that they occupy. Within this area, their town or permanent habitation usually lies. This permanent habitation is almost always a bit of raised land that they can actually stand on.

Q’lik

The Q’lik are a Okung kinship that primarily live on the edge of Duela shared with Kyenel. This gives them plenty of dry land adjacent to the green and alive Duela.

The Q’lik are widely known for their stealth. Although they are not hostile, they might surprise wanderers who come too close to Duela with a sombre threat, such as a knife to the throat. Confusing to these adventurers, the Q’lik will often perform the same warning to people they find trying to leave Duela.

T’she!a

The T’she!a are a kinship who live in north-eastern Duela. They own some marked territory in Edlyue and are very aggressive in trying to expand it. They also claim large parts of Duela, which is a claim they almost certainly will not be able to hold up. They are aggressive attackers of their Edlyue neighbour, Urrǂan, who need no help in defending against these attackers.

|ik’tan

The |ik’tan operate in most of central Duela. They are known for how effectively they traverse the mangrove forest, often stepping or jumping between tree trunks like a blur. They are neither hospitable nor hostile, as their disposition towards wanderers seems to change wildly depending on their current mood. Sometimes, they actively help people they find. Other times, they are privy to knocking them on the head and carrying them tied back to base, for whatever purpose they might find fit.

Gurrash

The Gurrash are a majority Tudofall kinship who value patience. For this reason, they don’t really seem to do much. They perform agriculture, which is rare for an Okung kinship. The fruits they grow take a while to ripen, and the trees that grow them take centuries to reach maturity.

T’xurrk’al

The T’xurrk’al are a mixed kinship (meaning they aren’t Rutefall majority as is assumed) that permeate the entire mudlands. Unlike regular folk who avoid the mud due to safety and hygiene, the T’xurrk’al live in it, often sort of swimming in the mud and creating strange huts in the mud that are flooded for most of the year. It is a strange culture, but they somehow managed to become the masters of mud.

Vraǂshol

The Vraǂshol are a mixed kinship that highly value unity above all else. They enjoy peace, and are known to help travellers in the Duela. Their territory is out of most traveller’s ways. Their efforts in peace have brokered many truces between the kinships in Barthe. Having no marked territory of their own in the area, they are seen as a reliable and impartial outside group.

Zhek’il

The Zhek’il live on the edge of Duela with the Dithas mountains. This means they get to operate in a mix of Duela and Dithas, a combo not often survivable. They have a strange culture of intelligence, where they like to learn from travellers, often taking their books in exchange for some commodity like crocodile tears or snake oil.

Ssik’al

The Ssik’al are a fully nocturnal kinship that operate in inner Duela. They are known to sleep during the day and hunt in the night, which is a dangerous tactic they have become masters of. Most other clans are resting during the night, effectively opening up the entirety of Duela for roaming without opposal.

Zhizhka

The Zhizhka are a kinship from western Duela on the border with Dithas. They often make travel to Dithas and visit the many Mad tribes there. They also like to come into conflict with the Domuz colony of Asthenel, especially as hired assassins. The Zhizhka have become well-renouned people hunters by the Mad, capable of killing any priority target and halting the expansion of the Domuz colonial project.

T’ssac

The T’ssac are a mixed kinship that live in inner Duela. The T’ssac are actually majority Difmuz, which is the only thing unique about them

Barthe Kinships

Colossk’

The Colossk’ are a Tudofall kinship of body-builders and strong people. They control two of the six lakes in Barthe, but are quite boxed in because they lack any marked territory that borders the swamplands. Instead, they are stuck with the burnt hills and Kyenel’s northern slope.

Krixa

The Krixa are a kinship that controls one of Barthe’s lakes. They are generally content with their territory, but constantly make up plans to take over the rest of Barthe, or establish proper territorial lines in other parts of Duela. They also like to plan their fights, even though the plans rarely go as expected.

Isskra’l

The Isskra’l are a kinship that control one of Barthe’s six lakes. They are incredibly defensive of this lake and aggressive towards anyone in their territory. This aggression isn’t helped by the proximity of Vraǂshol and Ts’irak kinships who operate close to Barthe.

Zhaq’tul

The Zhaq’tul are a mixed kinship that controls two of Barthe’s six lakes. They don’t really do anything unless it is absolutely effective and deliberate. Some say this deliberacy is what netted them control over two of Barthe’s lakes.

Edlyue Kinships

Urrǂan

The Urrǂan are a strange Tudofall kinship who have a lot of marked territory in Edlyue. They believe themselves to be the be the best and most brightest of all kinships, with the cleanest folk and the richest traditions. Either fortunately or unfortunately depending on your alignment, they are under frequent attack by their aggressive neighbour, T’she!a, who steadily encroach on their land.

Tzolu|

The Tzolu| are a Tudofall kinship that swore themselves they would endure anything Ichmenre could throw at them. So far, they have done a pretty good job at this, but they are still yet to become heat-proof.

Burnt Hills Kinships

Ts’irak

Tbe Ts’irak is the only kinship in the burnt hills. Living closely with fire, they have tried to adapt to their strange environment and use it as their own. The burnt hills are dry compared to the rest of Duela, meaning they have a lifestyle unique among Kinships.
