Annwvyn

Annwvyn is a significant continent east of Barogate. It is separated by Rahoamor, which is infamous for its hostility and constant storms. For this reason, there is little movement between Rahoamor and Barogate, but they are mutually aware of one another.

Annwvyn is primarily the home of the Gan.

Regions

Daerah

Fuelled by Rahoamor water, the South most parts of Annwvyn are a wet tropic with a shattered coastline. The acidic rainforest turns into an evergreen further east. In this evergreen, the Coesgan originate.

Berstur Valleys

The warm winds and waters from Rahoamor are shattered by thick valleys, in which many Deimgan inhabit.

Taggrun

Caused by the western valley’s plate shoving itself into Annwvyn, the western mountains are the largest on the mortal realm. The entire region is above 1500m, is rather warm and dry.

The Sangan live where they can here.

Desert of Tar

A very very hot desert

Kuçin

A savannah well known for being the origin of domestic cats. Also, a species of cat person, because a God really liked them.

Nusant

The name for the southern Mediterranean area and simar hard to group regions such as the ocean-facing parts of otherwise Mediterranean land.

The Dregan originate here.

Kerré

The eastern region of temperate climate, well known for its eastern facing bay.

While it has a very mixed demography, the Dregan dominate.

Colamdezhin

The northern Mediterranean part, which is more north-sea like in its climate. It’s a wonder they border.

Many [[Deg]] and ellegan inhabit here.

Berrutan

The large temperature area north-east.

Alongside other Annwvyn species of person, there is a large Ews community here.

In Berrutan, there is a glass crater that is the aftermath of Caesi’s doing.

Utaire

The northern tundra.

Inhabited primarily by Ce’gan, Deg, and Ryr

History

Annwvyn’s history began with the first Ce’gan in Utaire. Their development largely mirrored global civilisational development, matching the copper ages and iron ages of Barogate, Anula, Mothdao, and Ournaxo.

Comparing the continent’s history to that of Barogate, historical and social development was much slower. This is often attributed to a few factors.

  1. The lack of accessible spellcasting ingredients. Rather obviously, entry-level and dry-cast ingredients were much more available in Barogate’s Shildo.
  2. No ancient research institutes. Perhaps a consequence of the above, Annwvyn had no centralized research institutes, if any at all. Comparatively, the famous Nao institute founded around -3100.

All of this is to say that Annwvyn’s medieval era appeared later than Barogate’s. It began around 2600, and then progressed normally.

Gunpowder would soon overshadow any medieval expeditions into Hidosis as it was much more available. The first gunpowder weapons were crude rockets, bombs, and grenades in use at the beginning of this medieval era.

By the high medieval era in 2800, massive bombards were being used in pivotol sieges. By 3000, arquebus squadrons were common on the battlefield. In 3200, pike-and-shot became a necessity for a useful army. In the modern day (3488) armies are musketeers with bayonettes, supported by limber artillery pieces. Cavalry is elite, using enchanting to ward off bullets for devastating effect. Enchanted muskets squads are employed to counter these but offer no benefit over normal infantry.

Mages are present on the battlefield, but they are glass cannons. It takes decades to train to be a mage in Annwvyn, and the best ones are often those that import entry-level training equipment and ingredients or those that spent their early training elsewhere. Once trained to a point where they can use Annwvyn’s own ingredients, the mage corps are as effective as artillery with guided missiles, bounded only by their short supply ammunition.

Name Origin

After the Adaleans originally settled, they found an unmatched prosperity on their island, much more so than the original islands of Gazi. Some myths and legends began to arise about another island even further east that would bring even more prosperity to the Kithral. Some myths even claiming that it keeps everyone young and immortal. Knowledge about this fantastical island died down with further generations, but remained in some form in mythology, mostly to depict a land of desire. These islands were often called Anufyn.

The exact etymology of this word is disputed. The most common belief is that the name of the islands comes from actual sailors who went and checked for it, who landed on Ikunda to find out how inhabited it was, only to leave. Today, there are three candidate countries that the Adaleans of old could have landed in: DeMakl, DaNufn, and DoPykad. It is believed that because of the similarity in the names DaNufn and Anufyn, adalean sailors took this name and spread it across Adal.

Daklyn absorbed more than enough stories about Anufyn to add it to Wastelife. Daklyn renamed it Annwvyn to make it clearer to pronounce to Ouranxan audiences.

As for the regions, I made them entirely up. Unfortunately, there’s a lot less care to be made when things are not in Barogate or Anula. I guess canonically this is the expanded post-Daklyn canon.
