Duela
Duela is a swamp region in Barogate’s Wastes. It is largely a salty mangrove swamp, with trees standing on stilts above the mud.
The region is dominated by the Rutefall. They mostly operate in territorial tribes alongside Difmuz, Tudofall, and Matafall. These tribes are known as the Okung Kinships. Many inhabitants aren’t kin, but live with their respect.
The Duela borders Dithas and Kyenel.
Geography and climate
Duela is primarily a murky mangrove forest where the trees are tall and the ground is muddy. There is still a lot of regional variation in the terrain.

Duela
The muddy mangrove swamp covers 66% of Duela’s area. The depth of the water is usually only a few metres, with plenty of small plateaus. The water height is somewhat tidal.
The region labelled “mudland” is a part of Duela with no above-ground land. The exact depth of the water in these parts is extremely tidal, and closer to the coast the distinction between the “land” and the water becomes very difficult. Usually, the Dithas ends where the trees do.
Barthe
Barthe, or the Lakes of Barthe, is a swampy highland in Duela hosting the region’s only fresh water. There are roughly 6 lakes, each of which are contested by various tribes. The water from the lakes is a mix of filtered Duela water and naturally flowing water from Ichmenre.
Edlyue
Edlyue is a highland region of Duela. Edlyue is essentially a temperate region. it is a couple metres above the sea and is generally the most habitable region of the duela. It is still extremely hostile, as fauna from Llyhai and Ichmenre frequently travel here.
Also part of the region is the Natlali Islands, which are a few grassy islands off Duela’s coast. Many islands have a tidal existence, but at high tides grass still pokes about half a metre above the water.
Ichmenre, which borders Edlyue, is dramatic. The land goes from around 20 metres above ground to the 3500m height of Siwgrgwyn in 23 kilometres.
Burnt Hills
The burnt hills are a sloping region between Barthe and Ichmenre. They’re hilly, mountainous even, and under the domain of Ichmenre.
Fauna
Character Animal: Swamp Alligator
The Swamp Alligator is respected in Duela as a silent hunter. It represents all of the region’s hidden danger: fast, lethal. Navigation around alligators is mastered by the locals, who can rationalise with the alligators by respecting them rightly, and feeding them if they’re hungry.
Name Origin
Although the area on DeMoch is a lowland, it is not a swamp and is a normal desert like everywhere else in Difath. The name comes from ‘Dulae’ which literally translates to ‘bog’
