Kyeron

Kyeron is a massive rainforest west of Gordolmonre on Barogate’s western coast. It’s inhabited by the Laurien peoples, which are primarily Ximuz and Laurafall. Towns and cities live in harmony with the trees of the forest, which extend from 30 to 40 metres from the ground. It borders Ereso and Terlaye in the south and Gazi Lale Darie in the north.

Climate

The vast majority of Kyeron is a large, continuous rainforest. This rainforest is caused by the gargantuan Gordolmonre mountains to the east, which trap the eastward winds.

Not all of Kyenel is a rainforest:

• 2% of Kyenel is a massive tidal sandy beach,
• 5% is Bistcran lands, which are subtropical evergreen and similar in climate to Ereso
• 3% is highly productive deforested areas.

Deforested areas are slim and usually dedicated to high production staple foods such as soy, corn, and cash crops like cotton. They were deforested thousands of years ago in serious mistakes. Through effort, the land was made productive once more, and further deforestation is out of the question due to the devastating short-term effects.

Rainforest land use is split between forestry, agriculture, and animal husbandry. Forestry is almost entirely bamboo-based. Bamboo is the primary construction material, used in wattle and daub.

Kassava, mushrooms, nuts, and berries are the staple Kyeron foods. Vanilla, black pepper, and passion fruit are vertically grown on vines. Ginger, tumeric, and cardamom are common spices. Arrowroot, cacao, and milk are commonly farmed to produce Kyeron’s dessert culture.

Tapirs and tapir cows are beasts of burden grown and used across Kyeron. Tapir cows, bred for millenia, provide Kyenel with milk. Capybaras are kept in pig-like roles, with their carcasses harvested for thick leathers, oil, and meat. Naturally domesticated dragonflies are respected in villages due to their role in fending off mosquitoes. Silk moths are industrially used for fabrics. Finally, massive harpy eagles are used like dogs to move cattle and protect crops from pests like monkeys.

Bistcran lands are agriculturally similar to Ereso and use similar techniques.

There are three prominent wide and navicable rivers that act as cultural pillars. Thye are known as the Cavillshulae. There are three: Llesndjti, Kiasv, and Abdigszi. The deforested areas each belong to one of these Cavillshulae.

The sandy beach is not agriculturally productive in most part because it is religiously revered. There do exist several settlements on the sand, all owned by Kyeron’s church. Their primary produce is clams, crustaceans, eels, sapphire, and seaweed. Rare beached whales are usually helped back into the water, but poaching gangs frequently find and harvest these first.

Kyeron is defined by its rainforest, but the actual definition of the land is subject to geopolitical considerations. The border between the rainforest and Gordolmonre is clear, but the dividing line between the rainforest and northern Ereso, or western Darie, is subject to interpretation and has historically changed. This is especially true for the lands currently controlled by Clan Bistcran, which are much more similar in climate to northern Ereso than any part of Kyeron’s proper rainforest.

Many rivers that originate in Gordolmonre flow westwards following a direct route into the Cadole ocean. These rivers are collectively called Cavillshulae. There are three Cavillshulae each of which are population centres and well culturally defined.

Kyeron’s western coasts are full of large sandy beaches, but one in particular is well known and strikingly present on any map. The largest beach in Kyeron stretches for kilometres inland. Its formation isn’t entirely understood.

Fauna

Character Animal: Sloth Bear

It’s like a sloth but it’s as big as a black bear. While usually territorial and aggressive, holy bears are kept by trained church personnel.

Name origin

Kyeron is based on the rainforest in western DeMoch inhabited by the Kithral Xi. Daklyn used the Xi expression “more trees than before” to name his region in Wastelife. This expression originates from an observation that migratory Xi made when comparing the tree density of the rainforest to their original homeland, Gazi. The untranslated expression is “hychshivae kin ron”, which is often shortened to “shikiron” in common speech. The last part of this - ‘kiron’ - was adapted into the region’s name, Kyeron. The Shi part at the beginning, although originally referring to trees, was used by Daklyn in naming the faction Shaikeron.
